Burford Concrete Sheds

Purpose built, durable concrete sheds

Dangerous goods, chemical storage, pump and killing sheds manufactured to your specifications

Concrete sheds offer a number of benefits over steel sheds. Burford's purpose built sheds can contain spills, have lockable steel doors, good ventilation and can include customised racks to give you complete flexibility over how your items are stored within the shed.

Burford have supplied concrete sheds across Southland, Otago and Canterbury and can arrange delivery and installation of the shed at your farm or lifestyle block.

Concrete Pump Sheds

Concrete sheds to protect pumps on your rural property

Keep your pumps secure, dry and out of damaging high winds

Many New Zealand farms and lifestyle blocks need to be able to keep their pumps in a secure, dry shed that cannot be blown away or damaged in high winds. Burford produces a wide range of pump sheds that are purpose built to meet your exact needs. Made in Winton, Southland, our pump sheds come in sizes from 2 metres diameter to 3.9 metres diameter.

The sheds can be sited anywhere in New Zealand (ideally on a level surface) and Burford can often help to organise the delivery and installation of your shed, in consultation with your farm or site contractors.

Our pump sheds provide great protection from the New Zealand environment, year round. They are ideal if you need to keep your pumps and the electrical connections safe and dry. You can work around pumps in the shed, depending on what size you order. Burford can also put holes in the shed in the appropriate places if required.

Sheds have previously been made with a hole in the floor and placed over the top of bores and wells. This keeps your water safe from animals and enables pumps and electrics to be contained in a safe tidy area to minimise maintenance.

Our sheds have lockable steel doors for security. Burford can manufacture pump sheds with any size door that you may require for your pumping needs. Burford realises that every New Zealand rural or farm situation is different, so we offer the ability to fully customise your pump shed to suit your needs.

Concrete Dangerous Goods & Chemical Storage Sheds

Storage of poisonous, corrosive or flammable materials

Purpose built dangerous goods and chemical storage sheds

Many New Zealand farms and lifestyle blocks need secure storage of materials that are poisonous, corrosive or flammable. Burford produces a wide range of dangerous goods and chemical sheds that are purpose built to meet your exact needs.

The sheds can be sited anywhere in New Zealand (ideally on a level surface) – and Burford can often help to organise the delivery and installation of your shed, in consultation with your farm or site contractors.

Made in Winton, Southland, our hazardous item storage sheds come in sizes from 2 metres diameter to 3.9 metres diameter.

Concrete storage shed specifications

Our dangerous goods and chemical sheds provide great protection from the New Zealand environment, year round. They are ideal if you have flammable materials to store like paints, solvents, gases, engine fuel, oil, animal dips, herbicides, or insecticides, or if you have materials like fertilizer and cement to store that can attract moisture from the air and deteriorate.

Burford concrete sheds have lockable steel doors for security, and have ventilation in both the floor and roof areas of the shed for improved airflow. Dangerous goods sheds provided by Burford are also non-combustible (made from concrete, to high New Zealand standards), and are clearly labelled with an orange HazChem 2WE sign. With doors 150mm above floor level for access, any spills that occur within the sheds are contained, reducing your risk of leaking chemicals into the environment (an offence under The Resource Management Act 1991).

Burford realises that every New Zealand rural or farm situation is different, so we offer the ability to fully customise racks inside the shed, to hold the different hazardous material container sizes you need to store. Our dangerous goods storage solutions also allow for the full segregation of items – for example, storing insecticides away from herbicides. Whilst storage racks allow you to store items off the ground in your shed, some items like large liquid containers should always be stored at floor level – which is possible within our sheds due to the style of racking we supply.

Concrete dangerous goods shed sizes

Diameter Height Bundage capacity (approx.) Weight Site dimensions
2000mm 2230mm 400 litres 2.5 tonne Level area 2.5m square
2840mm 2410mm 720 litres 5 tonne Level area 3.5m square
3500mm 2565mm 1162 litres 6 tonne Level area 4m square
3900mm 2565mm 1450 litres 9 tonne Level area 4.5m square

Note: The bundage capacity (as above) is when the door in the shed is 150mm above the floor. This prevents spillage or leakage and is ensures all spills are contained within the shed. The bundage capacity can be increased by manufacturing a shorter door.

The shed also has a lockable steel door with a vent and there is a vent in the roof. These vents allow for airflow within the shed.

Purpose Built Concrete Killing Sheds

Concrete killing sheds provide a cool and easy to work in environment

Burford concrete kill sheds meet the New Zealand laws for on-site farm killing sheds

Whilst many New Zealand farmers send their animals off to licensed slaughter houses for killing and processing, some farmers may kill additional animals on the farm for eating by their families or workers, or as food for the working dogs on the farm property.

New Zealand law stipulates that farms killing stock on site must kill the animals in dog-proof facilities. This is largely to avoid the risk of contamination of the meat by rabies and other diseases. Killing sheds are commonly used to kill stock and then hang the carcass.

Burford concrete kill shed specifications

Burford manufacture a range of killing sheds suitable for use on New Zealand farms. Our kill sheds are based upon our proven concrete water tanks. In addition to the features of a concrete water tank they have a sloping concrete floor that slopes towards a drain, which in turn leads to a covered sump. This makes the shed easy to clean, using a water hose and detergent.

The door of your new killing shed is made from freezer panels. Unlike a steel door, the sun doesn’t heat the Burford kill shed door, reducing excess heat built up in the shed. Each killing shed is ventilated through a small vent in the shed wall, placed opposite to the main door, allowing air movement to occur. In summer, water can also be applied to the shed roof via sprinkling hoses to help keep the concrete walls cool. This provides a more comfortable working temperature for the farmer or butcher, and it will additionally help firm up any hanging meat.

Your killing shed is designed for easy use. The standard killing shed is 2.7 metres high, with a 3.5 metre diameter. To allow you to easily hang meat, a rail extends outside of the killing shed door, making it easier to hang and slide meat in and around the shed. The hanging rail extension can be removed at any time so the door can be closed.

Burford have supplied killing sheds to farms and lifestyle blocks in Southland, Otago and Canterbury.  We can work alongside your usual farm contractors to arrange delivery and installation of the sheds. We can also provide a full range of killing shed accessories and further killing solution consultancy as required.
